Backstage Bridal Pro Scholarship 2012: 1920s Vintage Inspired

Let's continue in our showcase the entries for the Annual Backstage Bridal Pro Academy Scholarship Contest. Wedding Pros from across the United States submitted entries for a chance to win a full scholarship to Backstage Bridal Pro Academy this September at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verde, California where they will join other wedding professionals in elevating their wedding planning business at THE best educational experience around. Next up, we are over the moon with the classic elegance of an era gone-by. Amy Jaye of Posh and Posy Events in Fresno, California, was inspired by the Masterpiece Classic Series Downton Abbey. Amy tells a fabulous tale of how she was inspired by Fabulous and Graceful:"I was so struck by the pure beauty of it all. Stately manors, sublime fashions, and snarky comments? Yes please! So when the theme of the scholarship contest was announced, I nearly jumped for joy. What could be more graceful and fabulous than a Downton Abbey inspired wedding?"

"The first two seasons take place between the sinking of the Titanic and the end of World War I. It was a time of elegance and propriety, and yet there was a bit of excitement under the surface - we were on the verge of the Jazz Age and flappers after all. I wanted to hint at that excitement so instead of the darker colors of the Victorian Era the color palette includes the pastels that were emerging in fashion and home furnishings. An example of this is seen in the decor of the beautiful Drawing Room at Downtown Abby. It is filled with gorgeous pale blue/green, with creamy ivory and pink furnishings. I wanted to bring shades of grey, pink, butter, and sage to the decor and flowers as well as a soft lighting that makes everything seem so romantic and dreamy. The bouquet and center-piece included a combination of flowers, herbs, and plants to get the romantic look reminiscent of the era - Ranunculus, Akito and Vendella roses, Evergreen Clematis, Ornamental Kale, 2 kinds of Scented Geranium, Lavender, Rosemary, Waxflower, Dusty Miller, Miniature Carnations, Stocks, Assorted Begonia leaves and flowers, and just a touch of Pink Jasmine vine."

"Our lovely bride wore a gorgeous Rina di Montella french lace gown with matching jacket, sweetheart neck-line, tiered skirt and three-dimensional flowers - a modern take on the fashion of the day. Her hair was done in a style similar to Lady Mary Crawley's, and the makeup reflects the understated look the aristocracy favored. Usu-ally just a bit of dusting powder was used - in those days only prostitutes and actresses wore makeup! - but Emily Johnson created a look that modern brides would be pleased to wear."

"The table setting features lots of silver metallics and glistening crystal, including cut crystal candlesticks with long tapers, and a Waterford crystal bell to call the servants. I used clear "ice" chiavari chairs for seating and a grey linen to make the colors in the florals really pop."

"And while there would be all that softness in the feeling of the wedding, I also wanted to include the fabulousness of the jewelry from that time - Edwardian Bib necklaces and sparking brooches inspired the cake from Creme de la Cake, as well as the custom invitations, place cards, and menu from Lisa Takao Paper Couture. I had so much fun putting this together - I hope you enjoy it as well."
